Galilee here we come!
Depart from the UK for your day time flight to Ben Gurion Airport Tel Aviv. You will be met by your local Israeli tour guide and driver before making the 1hr 45min (approx) transfer to King Solomon Hotel Tiberius in time for evening dinner.
The Upper Galilee Day
The morning starts with a drive to Mt Carmel where a stunning view from a roof thought to be in the spot where Elijah contested with the prophets of Ba’al. Next to Saffori and the capital of Galilee in the time of Jesus. After lunch an afternoon walk in the Banias National Park (see right) to the waterfall at Caesarea Philippi. Should timings work well the lunch stop will be at a Druze Village where you can try their unique style of food.
Nazareth & The Sea of Galilee
After breakfast we shall drive the short distance to Nazareth passing through Cana of Galilee where Jesus performed his first recorded miracle. We will visit the Nazareth Village and the Basilica of the Annunciation before travelling the 30 minute Journey to the shores of the Sea of Galilee. After a lunch stop in Tiberias we shall take a boat trip (see left) on the Lake and hold a short communion service whilst “out at sea.” Landing in Capernaum we shall visit Tabgha (Feeding of the 5000), Mensa Christi (“Feed My Sheep”) and the Mt of Beatitudes before returning to the King Solomon Hotel in Tiberius.
The Central & Lower Galilee & the Mediterranean Sea
In the morning first a visit to the Baptismal site at Yardenit before a visit to Beit She’an (see right) where King Saul’s head was displayed. Next a visit to the ancient synagogue at Beit Alpha. We continue on to Meggido (Armageddon) before stopping at Caesarea (Maritima) where Cornelius was converted and now known to be the home of Pontius Pilate. Check-in to the Jerusalem Gate hotel.
The Old City Walk
Today we shall start our walk at the Western (Wailing) Wall (see left) where it is likely you will see Barmitzvah’s taking place, do not feel nervous about joining their celebrations, you will be welcome. Next to the Temple Mount, St Stephen’s Gate (Also known as the Lion Gate), Pool of Bethesda, the Via Dolarosa (The Way of Sorrows). A stop for rest and an amazing view at the Austrian Hospice before continuing to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. A walk through the Suk (Bazaar) will bring you to the Cardo the main street from the time of Jesus. Next we visit the Davidson Centre with its superb dynamic of the Temple and the Southern Steps of the Temple where Jesus overturned the temple rogue traders. Evening free.
Bethlehem & Jerusalem
This morning we visit Bethlehem and view the Church of the Nativity, the place of Jesus birth (see right) and the Shepherd’s Fields where the “Shepherds Watched their flocks by night” as the Christmas Carol goes. An opportunity to visit and meet the Arab Christians at Beit al Liqa (www.beitliqa.org Click on English!) In the afternoon Starting from the Mount of Olives, visit Dominus Flavit (The Tear Drop Church), the Garden of Gethsemane and the Garden Tomb (Sometimes called Gordan’s Calvary) where there will be an opportunity for communion.
Travel down the Jericho Road to the lowest point on Earth at approximately 1300 ft below Sea Level. An opportunity for a short Camel ride on the “Zero” Camel on route! First a visit to Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, next ascend to the summit of Masada by cable car to hear its amazing story. A lunch stop at the Ahava Dead Sea products base and an opportunity buy some special cosmetics before spending time in mud baths, floating in the Dead Sea (see left), taking Natural Hot Sulphur Spring baths and swimming in the pool at one of the Dead Sea Spa resorts. Continue to Eilat and check into the C Hotel.
The Negev Desert
After breakfast, we will have a full day tour of the Southern part of Israel, the Negev desert. We will visit the amazing Tabernacle in the wilderness at the Timna National Park (see right). One of the largest attractions in the south of Israel, the park, set in a beautifully majestic desert setting, has amazing history and geology and also is home to Solomon’s pillars.
Shopping in Eilat and Relaxation time
A morning free to relax and shop in Eilat by the RED SEA. Eilat is a southern Israeli port and resort town on the Red Sea, near Jordan. Its beaches are noted for their calm waters, like Dolphin Reef, where the aquatic mammals are often spotted. Known for snorkelling and diving, there is a nearby Underwater Observatory that is definitely worth exploring if you have the time. We travel through the wilderness of the Negev desert via The Ramon Crater, the landform is not an impact crater from a meteor nor a volcanic crater formed by a volcanic eruption, but rather is the world’s largest “erosion cirque”. We check into the Kalia Dead Sea Hotel in Ein Bokek.
Goodbye to Israel
This morning we transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for your return flight home.
