Day 1 - Saturday 6 April 2019

Galilee here we come!

Depart from Edinburgh for your day time flight to Ben Gurion Airport Tel Aviv via a short stop in Istanbul with Turkish Airways landing in Tel Aviv at approx. 20:05. Transfer and checking-into Galil Hotel in Nazareth. A cold plate of food will be provided in your rooms.

 

Sunday 7th April 2019

The Sea of Galilee

After breakfast we shall drive the short distance to Nazareth passing through Cana of Galilee where Jesus performed his first recorded miracle. We shall see the Basilica of the Annunciation before travelling the 30-minute Journey to the shores of the Sea of Galilee. After a lunch stop in Tiberias we shall take a boat trip (see right) on the Lake and hold a short communion service whilst “out at sea.” Landing in Capernaum we shall visit Tabgha (Feeding of the 5000), Mensa Christi (“Feed My Sheep”) and the Mt of Beatitudes before returning to Galil Nazareth.

Monday 8th April 2019

The Upper Galilee Day

The morning starts with a drive to Mt Carmel where a stunning view from a roof thought to be in the spot where Elijah contested with the prophets of Ba’al. Next to Saffori and the capital of Galilee in the time of Jesus. After lunch an afternoon walk in the Banias National Park to the waterfall at Caesarea Philippi. Should timings work well the lunch stop will be at a Druze Village (see left) where you can try their unique style of food. (not included in price unless requested) Overnight at Galil Nazareth.

Tuesday 9th April 2019

The Central & Lower Galilee and the Mediterranean Sea

We will visit the Nazareth Village, next to Beit She’an where King Saul’s head was displayed. Next a visit to the ancient synagogue at Beit Alpha. We continue on to Megiddo (Armageddon) before stopping at Caesarea (Marittima, see right) where Cornelius was converted and now known to be the home of Pontius Pilate. Check-in to Nativity Bethlehem.

The Dead Sea and Masada

Travel down the Jericho Road to the lowest point on Earth at approximately 1300 ft below Sea Level. On route to the Dead Sea area we will stop off at the Authentic Baptismal Site of Jesus at Bethany Beyond Jordan. First a visit to Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, next ascend to the summit of Masada by cable car to hear it’s amazing story. A lunch stop (paid locally) at the Ahava Dead Sea products base and an opportunity buy some special cosmetics before spending time in mud baths, swimming in the Dead Sea (see left), taking Natural Hot Sulphur Spring baths and swimming in the pool at one of the Dead Sea Spa resorts.

Thursday 11th April 2019

The Old City Walk

Today we shall start our walk at the Western (Wailing) Wall (see right) where it is likely you will see Bar mitzvah’s taking place, do not feel nervous about joining their celebrations, you will be welcome. Next to the Temple Mount, St Stephen’s Gate (Also known as the Lion Gate), Pool of Bethesda, the Via Delarosa (The Way of Sorrows). A stop for rest and an amazing view at the Austrian Hospice before continuing to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. A walk through the Suk (Bazaar) will bring you to the Cardo the main street from the time of Jesus. Next, we visit the Davidson Centre with its superb dynamic of the Temple and the Southern Steps of the Temple where Jesus overturned the temple rogue traders. Evening free.

Friday 12th April 2019

Bethlehem and Jerusalem

This morning we visit Bethlehem and view the Church of the Nativity and the Shepherd’s Fields. An opportunity to visit and meet the Arab Christians at Beit al Liqa (www.beitliqa.orgClick on English!).  On to the Israel Museum to see the Dead Sea Scrolls and the amazing Model of the City (see left) showing Jerusalem as it may well have been in the time of Jesus. In the afternoon Starting from the Mount of Olives, visit Dominus Flevit (The Tear Drop Church), the Garden of Gethsemane and the Garden Tomb (Sometimes called Gordan’s Calvary) where there will be an opportunity for communion. Return to Bethlehem for the final dinner which includes a glass of wine and one soft drink per personat the hotel before departing to Ben Gurion airport at approximately 20:30pm.
